A New Chapter in Our Manufacturing Journey: Roofings Group Unveils US$125 Million Phase IV Expansion

Roofings Group has marked a major milestone in its manufacturing journey with the unveiling of its US$125 million Phase IV Ultra Modern Level 2 Cold Rolling Mill Complex at Namanve.

On Tuesday, 25 August 2026, we had the honour of hosting H.E. President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at our Namanve facility for the unveiling of the new complex — the largest single expansion in Roofings Group’s more than three-decade history.

The Phase IV investment significantly expands our manufacturing capabilities and reinforces our long-term commitment to Uganda’s industrial development.

Expanding Uganda’s Manufacturing Capacity

The new facility incorporates advanced rolling-mill technology supplied by Danieli of Italy and adds 150,000 metric tonnes of annual production capacity.

This brings the total production capacity of Roofings Group’s Cold Rolling Mill Complex to 300,000 metric tonnes per annum, strengthening our ability to meet growing demand for locally manufactured steel products in Uganda and across regional markets.

The expansion represents more than an increase in production capacity. It is a strategic investment in technology, skills, employment and local value addition — contributing to the continued growth and competitiveness of Uganda’s manufacturing sector.

Investing in Jobs, Skills and Local Value

Phase IV is expected to create approximately 400 new direct jobs, while supporting technical training, knowledge transfer and opportunities across the wider manufacturing and construction value chain.

By combining advanced international technology with Ugandan talent and expertise, the investment creates opportunities for skills development and strengthens local capabilities within the manufacturing sector.

During the unveiling, H.E. President Museveni highlighted the importance of international cooperation in advancing Uganda’s industrialisation journey, stating:

“This is how you link all of them; the Italians, Japanese and Chinese. Cooperation is the way to go.”

His remarks underscore an important principle behind the Phase IV investment: bringing together global technology, expertise and partnerships with local talent and capability to strengthen Uganda’s industrial base.

Building on More Than Three Decades of Investment

Since our establishment in 1994, Roofings Group has continued to invest in Uganda, expanding our operations across Lubowa and Namanve.

To date, the Group has invested approximately US$500 million in Uganda and created more than 2,200 jobs.

Phase IV builds on this legacy of investment and marks the next chapter in our journey — expanding manufacturing capacity while contributing to Uganda’s industrial transformation.

Manufacturing in Uganda, Building for the Region

Our commitment extends beyond producing steel. We are committed to manufacturing in Uganda, creating opportunities for Ugandans, promoting local value addition and supporting industrial growth across the region.

With expanded capacity and advanced technology, the Phase IV Cold Rolling Mill Complex strengthens Roofings Group’s ability to serve customers in Uganda, East Africa and Central Africa, while contributing to the development of a more competitive and resilient regional manufacturing sector.

As we enter this new chapter, Roofings Group remains committed to investing in people, technology and local manufacturing — helping build a stronger industrial future for Uganda and the region.
